"Boosting Healthcare Ties: China, Pakistan Eye Joint Ventures in Telemedicine and Surgical Innovation"
The China Pakistan Medical Association (CPMA) is proud to highlight the successful visit of its Senior Vice President, Dr. Mian Waleed, to China, where he participated in the prestigious International Surgical Conferencehosted by Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Alaer, under the esteemed auspices of the Government of China.
Dr. Waleed’s visit marked a significant step forward in strengthening China-Pakistan healthcare cooperation, particularly in the areas of telemedicine, robotic surgery, obesity surgery, laparoscopic techniques, and oncological procedures. His participation reflects the growing commitment between the two nations to promote medical innovation, training, and joint clinical development under the Belt and Road framework.
“It has been a great honor, and I am sincerely thankful to the Government of China and the administration of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Alaer,” said Dr. Waleed. “Spending a few days here and participating in the International Surgical Conference has been an enriching experience. We had the opportunity to learn and also share our own experiences in the fields of obesity surgery (bariatrics), advanced laparoscopic surgery, and cancer surgery.”
During the conference, Dr. Waleed delivered a well-received presentation on “The Evolution of Minimally Invasive Surgery in Pakistan: Working with Limited Resources.” His talk highlighted the challenges faced by Pakistani surgeons in resource-constrained environments and the innovative approaches being used to improve patient care despite those limitations.
Participants also engaged in sessions focused on robotic-assisted surgery and telemedicine applications, which provided valuable insights into the role of cutting-edge technologies in enhancing surgical outcomes and expanding access to quality healthcare in remote areas. Dr. Waleed noted that the telemedicine infrastructure he observed in China was “truly impressive,” and emphasized its potential in transforming rural healthcare delivery in Pakistan.
The visit offered valuable opportunities for collaboration, including faculty exchange, clinical training, and joint research projects between Chinese and Pakistani medical institutions. Both sides expressed their eagerness to further develop bilateral training programs, integrate digital healthcare systems, and establish centers of excellence focused on minimally invasive surgery and telemedicine.
Dr. Waleed concluded his visit by expressing strong optimism for the future: “It was truly inspiring to witness such a modern, well-equipped hospital here. I look forward to continued collaboration and knowledge exchange. Together, we can bridge gaps in surgical expertise and create sustainable healthcare solutions for the region.”
The China Pakistan Medical Association reaffirms its dedication to promoting medical excellence, innovation, and cooperation between the healthcare communities of China and Pakistan.
